Sacramental Preparations

Click on the particular sacrament below to read the brief information about the sacramental preparation at Christ the King Catholic Church. Please don't hesitate to call or e-mail the contact person if you have questions.

If you are an adult who's interested in the Catholic church (maybe you were baptized as a child but haven't received other Sacraments, or you were raised in another tradition or none at all, or have been away from the church but are thinking about coming back), we have a couple of programs for you!  Consider our Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) and Coming Home sessions.

  • Baptism

Before a child is brought to be baptized, we require that the parents have been registered members of our parish for at least 4 months.  If the parents belong to another parish, they must have a letter from their pastor granting his approval that the baptism be performed at Christ the King.  We require the parents and at least one godparent to attend our baptism class, held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the children's chapel of the church. Registration for the class is required.  While there is no fee for the class, we ask a $25 honorarium for the baptism. Click the links to download a checklist for baptismal requirements and the form for requesting baptism.

Baptisms at Christ the King are usually celebrated on a Sunday, after the 11:30 a.m. Mass, but other arrangements may be made. Contact the parish office after taking the class to schedule the baptism. Godparents MUST be married in the Church. They MUST also be practicing, confirmed Catholics.

  • First Communion

Students in 2nd and 3rd grade, in both Religious Education classes and in Christ the King School, are eligible to receive their First Holy Communion. Preparation for First Communion involves both the students and the parents. Religious Education students will be instructed on Wednesday evenings during our regular RE classes. Students who attend CK school will receive their instruction during the day in their religion class. All families will be required to attend meetings and special events during the year to help their students prepare for their First Penance and First Communion. First Communion is usually in April or May.

We also offer instructions for children in grades 4 and up.  Christian Initiation of Children (CIC) involves home study with a parent or guardian attendance at Wednesday night Religious Education classes, as well as attendance once a month October through April at the CIC class.

  • Confirmation

At Christ the King parish, we begin the two year process of Confirmation in 7th grade with Confirmation in 8th grade.

The purpose of the Confirmation preparation program is to ensure a sufficient knowledge of the sacrament and to build a deep relationship with Christ and His Church.

We also maintain the diocesan requirements of sacramental preparation classes, faith formation, a retreat during the second year of Confirmation prep, and service projects. Youth must be registered and regularly attend middle school or high school faith formation in order to be confirmed.

Click the button below to reach the Confirmation website; you'll find information, documents, and resources.

  • Marriage

Couples wanting to be married at Christ the King must contact the priest or deacon - and the parish office -  in sufficient time to complete paperwork and participate in marriage preparation.

The time for the preparation will vary, but expect at least four to six months before the wedding.

In the event that problems or obstacles to the marriage are discovered, the couple will have time to resolve their difficulties through, for example, counseling and canonical procedures. In certain cases, circumstances can arise that make the time requirement very difficult to observe.

Exceptions to this requirement should be made only for grave pastoral reasons and the couple should still be obliged to take part in all the steps of the marriage preparation process. The inability or unwillingness of the couple to understand the need for an adequate preparation for marriage does not constitute a grave reason.

Please contact the parish office to start the process; click here to download a copy of Preparing for the Sacrament of Marriage at Christ the King.

  • Anointing of the Sick

Anointing of the Sick is a sacrament intended to restore spiritual and physical health. It is available to anyone who is ill, facing surgery, or experiencing the trials of old age.

Call the parish office, 509-946-1675, to arrange for anointing of the sick.  Outside office hours, please call the emergency phone:  509-539-9972.

We also offer an 'anointing Mass' twice a year, during which the priests anoint those in attendance.

  • Penance

The Sacrament of Penance grants us forgiveness of our sins; it reconciles us to God and restores peace and serenity of conscience.  We encourage frequent participation in this sacrament!

    Priests are available to hear confessions on Thursdays between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.;

on Saturdays before the Vigil Mass beginning at 2 p.m. in the winter (PST) and 3 p.m. in the summer (PDT); and by appointment.
