Young Ladies Institute

The Young Ladies Institute (YLI) is a Catholic women's (16 and older) group founded over 100 years ago in San Francisco. It promotes friendship, spiritual development and service. The local YLI provides scholarships, and life insurance for its eligible members, supports the various parish and school activities, raises funds for seminarians in the diocese, provides assistance for Catholic Family and Child Services, supports the retired Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary and arranges social activities for its members. The Institute at Christ the King was organized in 1955 and retains strong ties not only with its own members but also with the members of the five Sister Institutes that comprise District 16 of Eastern Washington throughout the diocese and the 8500 members across the four states the YLI encompasses: Washington, Oregon, California and Hawaii. The local Insitute is approximately 135 members strong. There is an active Prayer Chain within the YLI for petitioning the needs of its members, their families and friends.

The Bishop Dougherty #214 Young Ladies Institute of Christ the King Parish blends all women regardless of age, race, or marital status. Its members experience support in mental, physical and spiritual needs. Members provide rides to/from meetings, socials, doctor appointments, visit each other in their homes, and stay in contact by phone and email. When a need arises, members find a way to meet that need. Anyone interested in joining the YLI should contact the membership chairperson or president for more information.
